“Objective: The aim of the study was to compare surgical management with or without a nasogastric tube (NGT) to prevent anastomotic stricture that occurred following esophageal repairs (ERs).

Methods: Twelve New Zealand rabbits were divided equally into 2 m: with a NGT (experimental group) and without a NGT (control group). A 1-cm-length of the cervical esophagus was resected through a cervical incision and then anastomosis was performed using the NGT and keeping it in place for 6 days in the experimental group. The same procedures were performed in the control group. Both groups were fed parenterally for 6 days and orally after esophagography on postoperative day 7 as long as there was no esophageal leakage. The rabbits were sacrificed to evaluate diameter of the esophageal lumen (DOTEL), bursting pressure (BP), tissue hydroxyproline (HP) and wound healing scores (WHSs) in the anastomosis lines 8 weeks later.

Median flux of a 10 cm X 10 cm area of the lower abdomen was measured at 2-minute intervals from initiation of hemorrhage to resuscitation with concurrent measurement of heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), and

mean arterial pressure (MAP).

Results: Average time to a change of 5 U in flux following start of hemorrhage was 2.4 minutes. The edr1 mutant also exhibited enhanced susceptibility to host-adapted pathogens, including Colletotrichum higginsianum and necrotrophic Alternaria brassicicola. Comparative transcript profiling revealed that upon C. gloeosporioides inoculation, the expression of four plant defensin genes was severely impaired in edr1, indicating that EDR1 is required for the induced expression of these antifungal proteins.

In this report, we demonstrate that induction of a Shiga toxin-converting prophage in its host (E. coli O157:H7) occurs not only in the presence of DNA-interfering antibiotics (mitomycin C and norfloxacin) but also under conditions of oxidative stress [following treatment with hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2))]. Under these conditions, we observed not only effective prophage

A

total of 224 women with term pregnancy who underwent abdominal palpation by Sharma’s modified Leopold’s maneuvers developed by author using fingers, hands and forehand for better palpation were evaluated and compared with Leopold’s Maneuver.

The mean age was 24.5 years, CB-839 mean parity 2.2, mean gestation 38.2 weeks. Sharma’s modified Leopold’s pelvic maneuver could correctly diagnose occipito-anterior position in 95.0% cases as compared to 84.4% by Leopold’s maneuvers (P = 0.04), while it could correctly diagnose occipito-posterior position in 96.3% cases as compared to 66.6% by Leopold’s maneuvers (P = 0.0012). In breech presentation also Sharma’s modified Leopold’s fundal maneuver could correctly diagnose presentation in all cases as compared to 92.9% by Leopold’s maneuvers. While in a transverse and oblique lie, Sharma’s right and left lateral maneuvers could correctly diagnose presentation as well as position of acromion in all cases (100%).

The new maneuvers for fetal palpation appear to be very simple and accurate method for making out fetal presentation and position in late pregnancy.
